The Jakarta Agentic AI Specification - Status and Future

Reza Rahman
Reza Rahman

Jakarta Agentic AI Project Lead, Payara/Azul

This talk outlines the current status and roadmap of the Jakarta Agentic AI specification.

AI agents are one of the most prominent developments in enterprise and cloud native computing in decades. They promise to fundamentally accelerate innovation, automation, and productivity by leveraging AI in virtually every industry.

The Agentic AI specification aims to provide a set of APIs that make it easy, consistent, and reliable to build, deploy, and run AI agents on Jakarta EE runtimes. It defines common usage patterns/life cycles for AI agents, provides a very minimal LLM facade, allows defining dynamic agent workflows that can change at runtime, integrates with other key Jakarta EE APIs such as CDI, Validation, JSON Binding, Persistence, Messaging, and much, much more.

You will take away
  • Overview of Jakarta Agentic AI
  • Current status
  • API tour

Isolating AI Agents with Eclipse Enclave: Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw and more

Philip Langer
Philip Langer

CEO and Principal Software Architect, EclipseSource

AI coding agents work best when you let them run commands, install packages and edit files without confirming every step. That freedom is also what makes them dangerous on a developer machine: a wrong delete, a leaked token, or a prompt injection that tricks your agent into something you never asked it to do.

Eclipse Enclave is an open source runtime that puts each agent session into its own container, with a separate filesystem and network stack. The agent sees only the paths you mount, usually the project worktree, and reaches only the domains you allow.

This webinar introduces Enclave and its installation, then uses it for real coding work with agents like Claude Code and Codex CLI. The second part covers extending it: how to add a harness that Enclave does not ship out of the box, for example OpenClaw or a DeepSeek-based CLI, and run it under the same isolation.

You will take away
  • How to run coding agents like Claude Code and Codex CLI at full autonomy in your projects, without exposing your host machine, credentials or network.
  • How to tailor Enclave to your project’s toolchain: custom images, mounts, secrets and network allowlists, so agents have everything they need and nothing more.
  • How to integrate your own agent harness, such as OpenClaw or a DeepSeek-based CLI, so it runs under the same isolation and policies as the built-in ones.

A Guided Tour of Eclipse ZoneX

Frédéric Desbiens
Frédéric Desbiens

Senior Manager, Embedded Systems, IoT, and Open Hardware Programs, Eclipse Foundation

Modern embedded systems increasingly need to run software with different levels of criticality on the same hardware—without compromising isolation, determinism, or safety. Hypervisors can provide the strong separation these systems require, but their role in resource-constrained, safety-critical environments is quite different from virtualisation in the cloud or data centre.

Enter Eclipse ZoneX, a new lightweight hypervisor in the Eclipse ThreadX ecosystem. This talk will introduce the fundamentals of embedded hypervisors and explain why hardware-enforced isolation is becoming increasingly important for safety-critical and mixed-criticality applications. We will then explore ZoneX: the problems it is designed to solve, how it complements ThreadX, and why it represents an important addition to the ThreadX suite. Along the way, we will examine selected code to make its programming model and integration with ThreadX concrete.

We will also step back from the individual components to look at the broader safety-critical embedded ecosystem taking shape at the Eclipse Foundation, and how ThreadX and ZoneX relate to initiatives such as OpenHW and the Trustable Software Framework (TSF).

In this session, you will learn what embedded hypervisors bring to safety-critical systems, understand where ZoneX fits alongside ThreadX, and gain a clearer picture of how Eclipse projects are coming together to support open, dependable, safety-critical embedded platforms.

You will take away
  • Why hypervisors are so important for safety-critical use cases
  • Why ZoneX was a much needed addition to the Eclipse ThreadX family
  • What is the ZoneX roadmap

Beyond the Basics: Elevating Eclipse ThreadX to a First-Class RTOS for RISC-V

Akif Ejaz
Akif Ejaz
Sr. Systems/Firmware Engineer, 10xEngineers

What we'll cover:

  1. Why it matters: the gap between RISC-V's momentum and the availability of certified, open-source real-time software for high-assurance domains such as automotive, industrial, medical, and aerospace.
  2. Making the port future-proof: how to restructure a mature RTOS port so one codebase serves both 32-bit and 64-bit RISC-V, and how to handle modular ISA extensions without fragmenting the build.
  3. Lessons from the trenches: the pitfalls of porting battle-tested embedded code to RISC-V, and what we'd do differently.
  4. From simulation to real silicon: moving from QEMU to a reference board support package on actual hardware (SpacemiT K1 hardware).
  5. Keeping it reliable: automated hardware-in-the-loop testing on physical boards as a guard against regressions.
  6. What's next: where ThreadX on RISC-V is heading and how the community can use it and contribute.

Get more in-depth on this at OCX 2027.

You will take away
  • Certified RTOS for RISC-V is now within reach. Understand why safety-critical RISC-V products need a pre-certified, open-source RTOS, and how Eclipse ThreadX closes that gap.
  • Design ports to scale. Learn how abstracting word size (XLEN) and handling modular ISA extensions lets one codebase support both 32-bit and 64-bit RISC-V cleanly.
  • Avoid the common porting pitfalls. Take away practical lessons from porting a mature embedded codebase to RISC-V, so your own port or bring-up goes faster.
  • Build confidence through real hardware. See how moving from simulation to physical boards, backed by automated hardware-in-the-loop testing, keeps a port reliable over time.
